Summary

As a part of the Olivet Discourse recorded in Chapter 24 of the Book of Matthew, Jesus related to the disciples, the signs of the Second Coming and of the end of the age. The signs included, wars, rumors of wars, the rising of nations against nations, the rising of kingdoms against kingdoms, famines, earthquakes, persecutions, martyrdom, hatred of Christians by the world, betrayal, false prophets, an increase in wickedness, the growing cold of love among mankind, and the gospel being preached to the whole world. As a physical benchmark to the events preceding the end of days, Jesus stated - "So when you see standing in the holy place, the abomination that causes desolation, spoken of by the prophet Daniel, let the reader understand." Because of the specific direction to read and understand the prophecies of Daniel, Chapters 7 through 12 of the Book of Daniel are believed to contain the eschatological keys regarding the end of days and the return of Christ.

The story begins with the young man Daniel being captured by the Babylonian forces during the invasion of Jerusalem in 606 BC. Daniel, was a handsome youth, a member of Jewish nobility, and a man of quick understanding and aptitude. Renamed Belteshazzar by the Babylonians, Daniel trained in the royal Babylonian palace under King Nebuchadnezzar, and he served as a scholar to the king. Ten times superior to his Chaldean counterparts as an interpreter of dreams, Daniel interpreted, in 604 BC, an important dream of the king, as recorded in Chapter 2 of the Book of Daniel.

Nebuchadnezzar's dream consisted of a large, dazzling statue with a head of gold, chest and arms of silver, belly and thighs of bronze, legs of iron, and feet of mixed iron and clay. In the dream, a rock not formed by human hands, struck the statue on its feet and caused the whole statue to crumble into pieces like wheat chaff on the threshing floor. Then the rock became a huge mountain covering the entire earth. Daniel told Nebuchadnezzar that the statue represented four consecutive kingdoms which would rule the nations of the earth, the first of which was his Neo-Babylonian Empire. The fourth and final empire was to be as strong as iron, with control over the nations of the prior three kingdoms. Evolving into a kingdom of ten nations represented by the toes on the feet of the statue, the foundation of the fourth kingdom would be partly strong and partly brittle, and would be divided, as signified by the iron and clay mixture. In time, each of the four kingdoms would be destroyed, all twelve tribes of the Jews would return to the promised land in political autonomy, and God would establish in Jerusalem under Christ the solid rock, an everlasting kingdom, with dominion over all nations.

Daniel, Chapters 7 through 12, contain the story of the four kingdoms, which reign over the Jews and the world, as revealed to Daniel in a series of dreams and visions, subsequent to Nebuchadnezzar's initial dream. According to Chapter 7, in 553 BC, Daniel's first dream revealed considerable detail about the four kingdoms and the final leader of the fourth kingdom. In the dream, the fourth kingdom vanquished a vast portion of the Jewish population in a holocaust of death, but lost power over the Jews, at which time the twelve tribes returned to Israel. Per Chapter 8, in 551 BC, Daniel experienced another vision regarding specific details of the Medo-Persian and Grecian Empires, and, the desecration of the Jerusalem temple with the abomination of a foreign god. As revealed to Daniel by the angel Gabriel, the final Jerusalem temple is to be consecrated approximately 2,200 Judaic years after the initial desecration of the temple by Antiochus IV Epiphanes in 168 BC.

In Chapter 9, the angel Gabriel appeared a second time before Daniel, and revealed key details of the two comings of the Messiah, including segments of the time frames from the birth of Jesus until the Second Coming. As prophesied, Christ comes to earth the second time in a Jubilee return, after the four kingdoms which reign in political power over the Jews lose their power, and the twelve tribes of Israel are established in the promised land in political autonomy for the final time. Chapter 10 and Chapter 11 continue with the story of the rise and fall of the Babylonian, Medo-Persian, and Grecian kingdoms.

In Chapter 12, the time frames are given for the sequence of events of the end of days, beginning with cessation of the daily sacrifice at the Jerusalem temple, and, ending with the white throne judgement. As revealed to Daniel, the abomination which causes the Holy Hill (Mt. Zion and Mt. Moriah) to be desolate of its sanctuary until the consummation, is constructed approximately 1,290 Judaic years after the disappearance of the Ark of the Covenant and the end of the daily sacrifice. Those believers who are alive approximately 1,335 Judaic years after the construction of the abomination on Zion are to be blessed. It is anticipated that the event named is the blessed hope of the Church as described in Titus 2:13, which is the consummation of the Church by Christ the Anointed One at the Second Coming. Finally as prophesied, the white throne judgement occurs approximately 1,260 Judaic years after the blessed event.

According to the 1970's work of Dr. Asher Kaufman, a physicist from Hebrew University, the Islamic cupola, known as the Dome of the Tablets (also known as the Dome of the Spirits), stands on what is believed to be the location of the sacred precinct, known as the Holy of Holies, in both of the former Jerusalem temples, as constructed by Solomon and Herod. Based upon Islamic history, the Dome of the Tablets cupola was constructed in 685 AD, approximately seven years before the construction of the more famous Islamic temple, known as the Dome of the Rock, which resides on the top of the Jewish holy mountain in Jerusalem. Utilizing three hundred and sixty (360) days as the length of a Judaic year, the Dome of the Tablets cupola was erected approximately 1,290 Judaic years after the daily sacrifices ended in 586 BC and the Ark of the Covenant disappeared. To this day, construction of a new Jewish temple on the holy mountain in Jerusalem, at the former site of the temples of Solomon and Herod, awaits the removal of the Dome of the Tablets. Because of the potential significance of the Dome of the Tablets cupola, the author(s) of this Website placed its picture on the Web Page of A Study of Biblical Eschatology in the Prophecies of Daniel.

According to Sir Isaac Newton in his 1733 book, Observations Upon the Prophecies of Daniel and the Apocalypse of St. John, the Jubilee return of Jesus as Christ the Anointed One, the Prince or King, occurs after the twelve tribes of Israel return to Jerusalem, establish national political autonomy, and have been in residence for at least forty-nine (49) years. Similarly, according to Chapter 8 of the Book of Daniel, approximately 2,200 Judaic years after the initial desecration of the Jewish temple with an abomination by Antiochus IV Epiphanes in 168 BC, the final temple is consecrated on Mt. Zion. And, finally, according to Chapter 12 of the Book of Daniel, approximately 1,335 Judaic years after the construction of the abomination which causes Mt. Zion to be desolate, the blessed hope of the Church occurs, namely, the consummation of Christ and the Church at the Second Coming. Utilizing three hundred and sixty (360) days as the length of a Judaic year, all three dates occur in close proximity to each other. Therefore, the author(s) of this Website believe that the return of Christ as King is imminent, and, we challenge you to, Let the Reader Understand.
